What is the U of You?

My Story…

My Name is Bradley Dean. From that the day I was born, I have been going non-stop. Life was good as a little kid, I had great friends, a great family, and living at a funeral home, I had enough parking lot to make any kid jealous. We rode bikes ALL the time. In fact it was my favorite thing in the world.

On a sunny afternoon in April of 1988 I was riding my bike home with my older brother, when I had a severe accident, caused by my own ingenuity and failed initiative (which is a nice way to say stupidity). I died… Obviously I came back, but that story is for another time. The part of the story that leads us to the U of You, is that along with my death, I suffered some brain damage to the Right Frontal Lobe of my brain. For the small minority of you out there that did not ace Brain Anatomy in High School; the right frontal lobe is the area of our brain that stores negative memories. So for me, I don’t do well holding onto negative past experiences.

The surgeons told me they could fix that with an experimental new surgery, and that they’d pay me a million dollars to let them, try, but I told them “I’m good”. J

So this “Brain Damage” that I have has allowed me to develop a keen ability to not focus on the negative in the world, but to see things in a positive light. And this not only happens in my own life, but I have been able to use my new found super hero powers, to bless and enhance the lives of others as well.

In 2001 I had this crazy idea to buy the URL uofyou.org (the .com was not available) out of that purchase I began building an idea for what the U of You was going to become… The concept has gone through many revisions, multiple models, approaches, and formats.

I believe most of our problems stem from issues in our past that we have not allowed ourselves to process through. I have worked closely with tons of addicts, abuse victims, individuals struggling with low self-esteem, troubled teens, broken families, lost souls, alcoholics, people with depression, severe health issues, negative self-talk, and many other types of personal inside struggles that at times seem hopeless… But the message of the U of You is that there is hope, there is healing, and my passion is to help individuals who want to find it. But if you like struggling through life… Ya know, that’s cool too.

My mission with the U of You is to bless and enhance the lives of everyone I meet, and I want to meet a lot of people.

As I watch the lives of people as shared through social media, and getting to talk with friends and family and I see the struggles, the infidelity, the contention, the distrust, sadness, divorce, anger, strife, and so much more that the world pours out into our lives. In contrast, and true to my nature, I see so many good things, and so much opportunity to learn and grow and change. Each of us has the ability and opportunity, with the right resources, to learn from our past and become stronger because of it. That’s what I’d like to help achieve with the U of You, to bless and enhance and heal the lives of all of those that seek it.

Please know that I am not a counselor. I am a life coach. My suggestions are just that; suggestions. I have a unique perspective on the world that seems to be able to help people in ways that traditional counseling cannot.

Also, please know that I will be straight with you. People love to lie to themselves and then can’t figure out why their problems won’t go away. I am here to help dispel those lies with love, honesty, and resources. The rest of the work will talk place in your own head as you come to terms with whatever you are facing and decide to make the change.

Please feel free to post any suggested topics for me to get working on. I am so grateful to have you along for the ride.

Fiercely dedicated to your happiness,
-Bradley Dean-
